2023 Nissan GTR: Everything We Know So Far

2023 Nissan GTR The Nissan GT-R is one of the longest-used platforms for a nameplate in automobile history. The first production specification version of the current GT-R was introduced at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show and hit the US market a few months after that.

COO Ashwani Gupta told Automotive News that the company is in the process of a major lineup overhaul in the US. And yes, that includes the GT-R.

Will the next-generation Nissan GT-R be a hybrid? In a recent interview between Automotive News and Nissan COO Ashwani Gupta, it was confirmed that a new GT-R is in the works and that the company is considering a performance-oriented hybrid drivetrain arrangement.

The crux of this news is that Nissan can update the current GT-R chassis, reduce weight, and reset the current engine if desired, all without going overboard. The chassis can be updated to provide better handling, a lower center of gravity, and a smoother ride while the engine can go through minor updates to better comply with emissions regulations.

The KERS system, however, will likely be where the enhanced power comes with sufficient energy recovered during normal driving and track performance to add a better chunk of acceleration when requested.

According to the report, Nissan is already working on a redesign of the GT-R, which could come out in 2023. That’s just two years, a fairly short time in GT-R years.

Furthermore, Automotive News said that the Japanese company is considering a performance-oriented hybrid powertrain for the GT-R, but it will be a kinetic energy recovery system. If that doesn’t sound familiar, the Nissan Le Mans race car, the GT-R LM Nismo, uses the same technology.

Both of these claims above contradict previous reports from last year. Previous stories said the next R36 would not be a hybrid, while others have postulated that the current GT-R will last until 2027.

Previously, there was news that Nissan would not make the GT-R R36 a hybrid car. Other news reveals that the current generation GT-R will continue to be sold until 2027.

However, with many internal factors, especially with the hectic Carlos Ghosn case, it’s no wonder many things can influence the company’s decision. Nissan seems to be starting to clean up and will focus on the Japanese, Chinese, and US markets. In America, Nissan has implemented a 3-year plan with the target of refreshing its model lineup while increasing profits.

2023 Nissan GTR Hybrid

Nissan GT-R may be the name that carries the longest history in the automotive industry since the appearance of the Prince Skyline in the 1960s. The R35 model was first introduced in 2007 at the Tokyo Motor Show and hit the US market a few months later.

According to the report, the next-generation GT-R will arrive in 2023 with a brand-new design. Not only that, the Le Mans Nissan technology that is applied to the GT-R LM Nismo will also be in this generation, namely the KERS or the Kinetic Energy Recovery System.
