What We Believe

We still expect the new 2024 Nissan Rogue SUV to exceed expectations. Nissan has updated the formula once again for 2022, adding a more economical turbocharged three-cylinder engine with better low-end response to this small SUV.

It’s still not very fast, but the additional torque provides a better response sensation and more agile movements. At highway speeds, road noise filters into the cabin but the overall driving experience is pleasant. The soft ride adds to the Rogue’s comfort.

We also like the Rogue’s rather large and well-packaged interior, as well as its Nissan-quality materials and higher-quality quilted leather. The in-car experience isn’t perfect, as Nissan’s infotainment hardware is known to be slow, something we believe has been rectified with Google’s new 12.3-inch system this year.

The sole obvious flaw in the front seats is the slightly forward location of the headrests, which some taller drivers may find unpleasant. The turbocharged three-cylinder engine manages to propel the Rogue to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds, barely 0.4 second faster than the 2021 model. On the road, the Rogue provides a comfortable ride that’s suitable for commuting and road trips, but its casual approach to cornering hasn’t won it any lovers among our editors.


The Nissan Rogue is a remarkable compact SUV for hauling stuff. Its overall cargo volume is only marginally less than that of the class leaders, and its in-cabin storage options are excellent. Higher trims have a series of easily reconfigurable floor panels that can be used to make a flat load bed or dividers, or they can be lowered to generate some extra space. Inside, there are many comfortable trays up front, as well as places for front and back passengers to hide drinks and small items.

When driving straight, there’s also a distinct dead spot in the steering, especially at city speeds, making it easy to drift if you’re not moving quickly enough to activate the Rogue’s lane-centering system.
