2022 Nissan Sentra By virtue of its merits, the Nissan Sentra 2022 is a fine compact sedan. It has several driver assistance features as standard, driving is quiet, comfortable, and the price is reasonable. If only there wasn’t so much competition.
The compact car class is dominated by the Honda Civic. The new generation debuted this year. The Toyota Corolla is another evergreen in this category. Then there’s the all-wheel-drive Subaru Impreza and the very entertaining Mazda3. At this company, Sentra struggles to make a solid argument for itself.
With no major merits or demerits, perhaps Sentra can appeal to those who have a soft spot for Nissan cars and have dealerships within easy reach.
The 2022 Nissan Sentra is an economy small sedan that underwent a complete redesign in 2020. Power is supplied by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and is sent to the front wheels via a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Within Nissan’s lineup, the Sentra is one step ahead of the smaller Versa and sits just below the larger Altima.
The 2022 model year brings slight changes to Sentra. The only notable changes are some packages. The All-Weather package adds a number of comfort features to the SV trim for those in colder climates, while the Midnight Edition adds some contrast black trim and black 18-inch alloy wheels for the SR trim.
We love Sentra for its smooth ride, better-than-average interior materials, and plenty of safety and technology features for the money. But that’s hampered by sluggish acceleration, an outdated infotainment system, and a bit long braking distance in a class dominated by the Honda Civic and newer competitors including the Kia Forte and Hyundai Elantra.

Maybe you’ve heard this story before: The redesigned Nissan compact sedan is trying to steal more Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic buyers. The difference is that this time, it might work more effectively. Extensive testing and driving at the new Nissan Sentra 2022 reveal how far the carmaker has improved its compact.
The 2022 center will not dominate the sales chart, but our time with SR testers shows where the new Nissan excels and fails against aging class leaders. First, let’s take a moment to mark the Center’s progress. When we last tested the model trimmed by the mainstream, the 2016 SL Sentra finally reached 60 mph in 10.0 seconds.
The Nissan Sentra 2022 is an economical small sedan undergoing a complete redesign in 2020. Power is supplied by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and channeled to the front wheels via a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Within Nissan’s lineup, the Sentra is a step up from the smaller Versa and has a slot just below the larger Altima.
We don’t expect notable changes for the 2022 model year as Sentra is quite new with its redesign. If anything, we tend to see very little shuffling of features from the options column to the standard features list. We should have more concrete information towards the end of 2021, so keep checking back for the latest updates.

Inside, the more mature and luxurious feel of the new generation of Sentra continues with a carefully rounded panel, circular air vents, a touch screen at the top of the panel, a clean center console, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.
Buyers can improve their appearance with the available black and brown color schemes and leather upholstery. This is one of the sharpest interiors in its segment, even in the lower finish, so we expect the Sentra 2022 to remain the same. The current Sentra is not sloppy in technology with a standard 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and keyless ignition.
Buyers can upgrade the Sentra with an 8-inch touchscreen, 7-inch vehicle information screen, Bose audio system, and more. These features and options must remain the same on the Nissan Sentra 2022. The Nissan Sentra currently comes standard with a 2.0 four-cylinder engine that pushes 149 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque through a continuously variable transmission to the front wheels.
Unlike the previous generation, there is no turbo option, although, in the end, we have seen it. We hope that this power train will remain the same in Sentra 2022.
The current center is the IIHS Top Safety Pick thanks to a “Good” score on all crash tests, optional headlights with an “Acceptable” rating, and a multi-level automatic emergency brake system of “Superior”.
Other standard safety equipment at Sentra today includes an automatic high beam and a blind-spot monitor. Buyers can also add optional adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera. These ratings and security features are likely to remain the same in Sentra 2022.
2022 Nissan Sentra Report
Nothing important as this compact car continues to feature redesigns that emphasize the 2020 model year styling, support road behavior, and improve the interior.
The ’22 Sentra will return as a large front-wheel-drive four-door sedan with a single-engine option and powerful appeal with great value for money.
In fact, relying on a wholesale revision to the 2020 anniversary design will bring a small change to the 2024 or ’25 model years due to a mid-term renewal.
Meanwhile, Nissan will focus on releasing new versions of the more demanding and more profitable crossover SUVs such as the Rogue and Pathfinder.
Buy the ’21. The ’22 Sentra is unlikely to change enough to wait and will almost certainly cost more. However, one of the reasons to wait is to clash with a completely redesigned version of the best car in the segment: the long-awaited ’22 Honda Civic.
To repeat the 2021 model lineup, call the Sentra 2022: base S, better equipped SV, and sporty SR. All will return with 149 horsepower and commendable standard safety features.
The SV will be relaunched with premium upholstered leather seats worthy of a car, while the SR will be reintroduced in a trendy two-tone paint scheme.
There is little indication that Nissan is planning a high-performance version of the Sentra to compete with the Civic Si, Hyundai Elantra N Line, Kia Forte GT, Mazda 3 2.5 Turbo, and Jetta GLI. All over 200 horsepower. And Mazda – like the Subaru Impreza – comes with all-wheel drive.
In the future of the Sentra, no hybrid is matched by the Elantra Hybrid, Honda Insight, or Hyundai Ioniq. Civic, Impreza, and Mazda 3 will remain the only competitors to offer sedan and hatchback body styles.
Will the style of the 2022 Nissan Sentra be different?
There may be a new color option or two, but don’t expect the Sentra’s style to change before the update in the middle of the decade; even then it will not be comprehensive. The ’22 will continue the look that came with the 2020 model year redesign.
By changing the body shape of Nissan, its brand identity emphasized the “V-motion” grille and the floating roof effect at the rear.
This reduces the Sentra’s overall height by 2 inches but significantly expands the car by 2.2 inches. It extends the body by half an inch and maintains the longest wheelbase in its segment (distance between the front and rear axles).
’22 will retain this sophisticated attitude, but a few sudden metal sheet corners will make it more eye-catching than beautiful.
Visually, the 2022 SR still has to be the most distinctive Sentra. It will return with privileges such as a dark chrome grille, LED fog lights, black mirrors, lower body sill extension, rear spoiler, and chrome exhaust tip.
It should also remain the only model with a black painted roof, which is a very attractive option when paired with a white or Monarch Orange body color.
Wait for S and SV to protect the halogen headlights. LED headlights, along with LED daytime running lights, should remain standard on the SR. The size and design of the wheels will also make a difference.
The S should again come with 16-inch steel wheels with plastic wheel covers. SV should return with standard 16-inch alloys and optional 17-inch alloys. Look for SRs that come back with 18-inch alloys.
Luxurious interior design and decoration should remain a selling point. All models will feature a sleek flat-bottom steering wheel and round central vents inspired by the Nissan GT-R supercar (and similar to those on some Mercedes-Benz vehicles).
Contrast stitching on the instrument panel and seats is another standard model. The fabric should once again be the standard upholstery in the board and the grades from the base fabric are the combination of “sports faux leather” in SR.
Included in the SV Premium Package, brown leather seats with layered trim appear to be stolen from Nissan luxury brand Infiniti.
Expect the S to protect the 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, SV and 8-inch SR. Both are installed in tablet-style and contain physical buttons for main audio functions.
All ’22 Sentras will return with Bluetooth streaming audio and phone connections, as well as Siri Eyes Free Voice Recognition.
The S must be equipped with a front USB port with an iPod interface again and a rear USB port for charging. SV and SR should add a second Type-C front port for charging and data transmission.
Some competitors offer built-in navigation that does not require a cellular signal for real-time GPS mapping. Don’t call Nissan to provide on Sentra.
Instead, it should continue to fit all models with the NissanConnect interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and enable app-based navigation with the mappings displayed on the dashboard display.
For the ’21 model year, the SR gained the WiFi hotspot feature, a feature that Nissan could also extend to other models for ’22.
The Centra’s central instrument panel design deserves special attention. The physical controls are very well executed, with clear markings and inviting knurled knobs that contribute to the display, stylish ventilation, and climate system.
On the downside, the steering wheel tilts slightly to the left from the center line of the driver’s seat. In the days of push-button electric parking brakes, foot pedals looked anachronistic. And the touchscreen in our SR test was particularly sensitive to fingerprints and an oddly unusual level of blur.
However, it will still be an interesting cabin overall. The material is sturdy and almost anything you touch regularly is coated or polished.
The comfortable, supportive, and wide seat, front and back. As with any compact car, the rear seats can be closed for three adults, but two people will enjoy ample knee room. If it’s the SV or SR model, they will also receive a collapsible center armrest with two cup holders.
Door pockets, console boxes, and cubes act as storage boxes for handy small items. Trunk volume at 14.3 cubic feet approaches the top of the class, and all models are equipped with a 60/40 split / foldable rear seatback for extra flexibility.
Load carefully, or you risk getting damaged by the open gooseneck hinge on the trunk lid.
Are there any mechanical changes to the 2022 Nissan Sentra?
Unlikely, Nissan has developed a formula that serves the Sentra target audience quite well. Of course, options for more power would be welcome.
However, most Sentra drives will never want a faster acceleration. And everyone should appreciate the excellent handling and handling of this compact sedan.
Expect the single Sentra 2022 engine to remain a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 149 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque. (Think of torque as the power that moves a vehicle and horsepower as the energy that moves it.)
While the best competitors offer four turbocharged engines with more power and torque, the Sentra’s output is on par with most of the rival base engines.
More and more automakers are turning to continuously variable transmissions or CVTs for small cars and crossovers. The CVT does the job of a conventional automatic transmission but has no progressive gear ratios.
Nissan has been using the CVT longer than most, and this will be the only ’22 Sentra transmission that outperforms most.
It runs smoothly with the engine to achieve the maximum power available in a wide variety of rides. They work together for good acceleration in the city and enough excitement for a drama-free highway consolidation.
Switching the floor shifter from “D” mode to “L” mode maintains higher engine speed and sharpens throttle response for greater freedom to move through traffic gaps or skid.
The transmission also appears to minimize the annoying buzz as the engine speed that is common in CVTs at full-throttle acceleration is moving faster than vehicle speed.
However, at 0-60 mph in 8 seconds, the Sentra was one second behind the turbocharged competition. You will rarely notice that you do not drive every day. But if you try to keep an aggressive pace, you lose the Sentra’s ability to not match this turbo power and torque reservoir from medium to high speeds.
No apologies or qualifications are required for the manners of Sentra. Nissan has invested wisely by moving the redesigned 2020 Sentra to a more sophisticated infrastructure that supports Rogue and Rogue Sport crossovers.
This is combined with a more sophisticated base switch with an independent rear suspension instead of the torsion beam rear axle.
’22 Sentra will continue to reap the rewards of this commitment. The extremely solid construction is the perfect basis for a well-tuned suspension. The steering is firm and accurate, and the vehicle confidently changes direction, even though it has a slightly thinner body than it seems.
This “soft” feeling of control is reflected in the driving style. Bumps, grooves, and tar strips are sucked in with minimal discomfort to the cabinet.
Constant cornering is maintained even on uneven pavements. And it pairs road speed stability with good noise cancellation to create a compact car that makes it easy for long journeys.
Will the fuel economy of the 2022 Nissan Sentra improve?
With no changes in mechanical properties, EPA Sentra’s 2022 rating will repeat the ’21 car. Here, the relatively modest engine power and efficiency of the CVT should pay dividends once again, almost at luxury mileage.
With slightly different ratings to account for tire size and vehicle weight, the Sentra S and SV 2022 are expected to give an impressive 29/39/33 mpg city/highway / combined ratings again. Call ’22 Sentra SR to re-rate the city/highway / combined 28/37/32 mpg.
Will there be new features for the 2022 Nissan Sentra?
We want to see Nissan match some of its rivals by adding the convenience of automatic handling that does not require the driver to maintain brake pedal pressure while stopping.
Don’t expect to introduce electric parking brakes, but if automakers define this as a competitive requirement, onboard navigation is a possibility.
However, the Sentra 2022 should only offer a standard set of reliable features along with two comprehensive option packages.
Crucially, the Nissan Safety Shield 360 will return to the standard in every model, outperforming some competitors that don’t offer a comparable safety package in entry-level trims.
Nissan Safety Shield 360 consists of autonomous emergency braking designed to automatically stop the Sentra to reduce frontal collisions with other vehicles, objects, or pedestrians.
It also includes rear autonomous braking and blind-spot and rear traffic detection (rare in this class as standard). Spotlights that automatically dim for incoming traffic are also included.
However, some competitors come standard with adaptive cruise control that can maintain a certain distance from traffic ahead.
For the 22 model year, this driver assistance will likely remain exclusive to the Sentra SV and SR as standard. Expect the SR to return with Nissan’s versatile track monitor that projects a wide video image onto the dashboard screen to aid maneuvering in tight spaces.
All 2022 Sentras will return with Nissan Easy Fill Tire Alerts as standard. This helps the horn to sound when you inflate the tires properly.
In addition to the standard features mentioned earlier, expect the SV and SR models to return with satellite radio, dual-zone automatic climate control, and remote engine start.
Will the price of the 2022 Nissan Sentra be different?
They will likely go up a little bit, but again they will lower the base price of the main competitors by up to $ 1,000. This is important in this price-sensitive segment. The estimated base price here includes the cost of the Nissan brand at $ 925 in the ’21 Sentra.
Expect the 2022 Nissan Sentra S to be around $ 20,550. Base price estimates for ’22 Sentra SV are $ 21,600 and $ 22,900 for SR.
Again, Nissan should focus on the Sentra 2022 factory options on two packages that are unlikely to change the content or price much. Both will still include the desired increase but will represent a massive increase in Sentra’s purchase price.
The SV Premium package ($ 2,270 for the 2021 model year) should once again include the aforementioned 17-inch alloy wheels and upholstered leather upholstery.
It should also include an electric tilt/sunroof, an electric driver seat with an electric waist, heated front seats, and a leather gear knob.
The SR Premium package (also $ 2,270 for ’21) will also include the contents of the SV package, as well as the aforementioned upholstery / faux leather, LED headlights and daytime running lights, and a bird’s-eye monitor.
Also included in the package will be a sun visor with a heated steering wheel, Bose branded sound enhancements, auto-dimming mirrors, and an illuminated vanity table.
The SR black roof should fetch $ 250 or $ 595 depending on the color of the body it is matched with. Finally, instead of the polished 18-inch alloy, the black should again be a $ 690 SR option.
2022 Nissan Sentra Specs
Our SR Center 2022 testers are almost 200 pounds heavier than ordinary commuter cars, but the new Nissan benefits from a more powerful engine. All 2022 Centers are motivated by the naturally aspirated 149-hp 2.0-liter I-4.
That doesn’t sound like great strength, and, well, no. But the 8.060 seconds 8.0 does not only match the main competitor, it might feel amazing for anyone who drives a 10-year-old compact sedan.
Because of this, every 2022 Civic EX and higher will be about one second faster to 60 mph, thanks to the four-liter turbo 1.5-liter car.
The Volkswagen Jetta is also faster, using its 1.4-liter turbo-four to hit 60 in just 7.6 seconds.
You’re considering Corolla too, right? A Corolla XSE that we tested crossed 60 in 8.2 seconds and feels fresh like the Civic which is faster tested in the same comparison.
Be aware that if you don’t get a Corolla SE or XSE, Toyota will wrap the compact with an engine that we call hard and less powerful.
With Sentra, even if you don’t make it big like our orange and black SR testers, you still get a decent 149-hp engine.
Like almost all other compact sedans, Sentra 2022 uses CVT. Usually, I am a big fan of CVT, which – if properly adjusted – can make boring travel the most livable thing.
Its smoothness means you don’t feel the shift shocks that you might experience on conventional automatic transmissions. Unfortunately, the CVT Sentra 2022 tries too hard to cover up the fact that it only works with 149 hp.
As we noted in our First Drive review, the Sentra is a bit bumpy at low speeds.
This is the tuning effect that Nissan must fix for the Center 2021 or 2022, along with curious behavior that makes smooth stopping a little difficult.
If not, the Sentra 2022 brake pedal will be adjusted for travel, with a soft initial bite.
2022 Nissan Sentra S
Nissan Sentra 2022, Nissan Sentra appears with a new look in 2022 and is accompanied by improvements in the quality of driving and a nicer interior.
The redesign has certainly helped elevate Sentra’s position in our eyes. This is a practical small sedan that provides comfortable transportation on a budget. It’s also full of features.
An advanced set of driver safety features, including forwarding collision mitigation and blind-spot monitoring, is standard at every Center, for example.
For the Sentra 2022, the most notable changes are that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard across the model line, which means that even the base version comes with this desirable smartphone integration system.

2022 Nissan Sentra Nismo
2022 Nissan Sentra Nismo, Founded in 1984, Nissan’s Nismo division has become synonymous with domination in racing, and while much of the performance team’s accomplishments lie in motorsports, they also inject a lot of power into cars destined for everyday tasks.
The term comes from the word ‘Nissan Motorsport’, and the resulting Nismo Edition road car can not only be used in everyday life but can still be showcased on the track.
So, automakers have ensured that this is the basics when it comes to comfort and convenience, with most of the research and development directed at how these engines function purely for fun.
Nissan Nismo model
So you’ve decided to back the underdog in the world with the very capable offerings of BMW and Mercedes-AMG, and we bet you won’t regret it.
Unfortunately, there are only a few variations available in the US in 2020, and while they differ in many ways, each is an unmistakable representation of Japanese culture:
GT-R Nismo – The big boy of Nissan’s Nismo models, this is the most powerful track weapon in the arsenal. It also enjoys the most popularity, thanks to the fanatical sect of JDM, and is a testament to the brand’s preferred less-is-more approach.
The infotainment is really simple, and the instrument cluster is also aimed at puritans. The inside is still clad in premium material, but this monster’s job is to boost your heart rate by going from zero to 60 mph in less than three seconds. Having 600 horses under your feet is not for the weak.
370Z Nismo – A popular choice for enthusiasts with limited cash to spend, it’s a lot easier to spend than its German competitor with an MSRP of around $ 46k.
As one of the last traditional sports cars to be motivated by a naturally aspirated engine, the 3.7-liter V6 engine puts out 350 hp and 276 lb-ft of power and brings out an aggressive soundtrack from the dual exhaust system.
The cabin is quite old-fashioned and as simple as the cabin. It has a stock manual transmission, but the ‘automatic’ box is optional.
Sentra Nismo – We wouldn’t say this is actually a fire extinguisher, as it’s driven by a 1.6-liter turbo unit that delivers under 190 horsepower. It also takes more than a count of seven to reach sixty from a standstill, but at least looks sporty.
The most significant advantage it has is its basic tasty price, but there isn’t much else to write home about.
Different Types of Car Body Nismo
There are very few specs to choose from in the US, but those on the showroom floor, shipped in all shapes and sizes. Much to the disappointment of those who prefer open-air driving, as there are currently no roadsters:
Coupe – The two main competitors here fall into this category, with ample seating for the pilot and passengers relatively comfortably. As well as the GT-R’s ample space at the front, there are also dual perches at the back, but they definitely work best as extra storage, as they’re too narrow for the most part.
Sedan – Sentra is the only 4 door in the corner of the manufacturer. Four doors translate to being more suitable for small families or those who regularly have several people traveling with them, making it easier to live together.
Crossover – None of these are at home yet, but there are rumors of a Juke being massaged by Nismo for 2021. While this hasn’t been confirmed by the masters themselves, we have high hopes that the concept is something to be desired.

The differences between the products sold are huge, so the ideal variant for you really depends on your finances. As a guide, here are the Nissan Nismo price estimates.
GT-R – This is the most expensive, with an MSRP of over $ 210k. It costs a little more compared to competitors, with the Corvette Z06 checking out for $ 100k less. However, you get a hefty amount of legendary Godzilla with the handcrafted VR38DETT powertrain.
370Z – The mid-range car has a more accessible starting tally for just over $ 45k, and with a minimal package of extras to complement, unless you want more performance and aesthetic improvements, in which case you can check out a fully loaded speedster for a price over $ 50k. Although known for its thrilling drive and smooth ride quality, it hasn’t aged well and doesn’t match the competition.
Sentra – Perhaps the hottest selling point here is the nominal sticker. To have it would cost over $ 26k, although that figure only applies to the 2019 model without the newer configurations on the market. While this compares favorably to other Nismos, there’s nothing extraordinary about it that warrants a price tag over the standard Sentra trim, or major rival, for that matter.

Despite Sentra’s best 60-0 braking performance of 114 feet beating the Civic with 2.0 and 1.5T engines as well as competitors from Volkswagen, Toyota, and Kia, there are asterisks here.
During our evaluation on the track, road test editor Chris Walton recorded ABS pulses on the pedals, generous dives, and inconsistent performance during the four tests.
The real surprise is how the Sentra 2022 presents itself in the MotorTrend eight-course course, which uniquely evaluates the handling, acceleration and braking, and the transitions between them.
With a time of 27.0 seconds at 0.63 g (on average), the SR Center divides the difference between the two Civic but easily defeats the Corolla XSE.
“Even though the body roll looks, it’s unexpectedly fun,” said testing director Kim Reynolds. “That changes with goodwill.”
Regardless of how the body’s role may be more disturbing than others on the winding road (hey, Mother and Father!), The Civic is a better back road partner.
But we understand – most compact sedan buyers only need a good car to start working.
Nissan mostly gives it here. Even though we saw more body roll than at the Sentra launch event in early 2022, we still found that the SR model’s rise was appropriate but firm.
There is a noise level that corresponds to the class in the cabin, which is one and a half generations better than the out-of-the-cabin car. Simply put, the new Center is more stylish, inside and out.
You want more than style. When it comes to interior spaces, the rear seat of Sentra 2022 is spacious enough for four people, with a soft front seatback that is a comfortable place to bend your knees.
The headroom is a bit tight, but if you regularly use 6-foot transit around the city and need max headroom, try a kick.

As for cargo space, 14.3 cubic feet of Sentra 2022 is respectable, about even with Jetta, 1.2 cubic feet is bigger than the Corolla, and 0.4 to 0.8 cubic feet smaller than the Civic.
That pesky Honda matches or beats Nissan in fuel savings in most trims. Nissan expects 2022 Sentra S and SV to get 29/39 mpg city/highway, with SR coming in at 28/37 mpg.
The 2022 Civic automatic transmission gets 29-32 / 37-42 mpg depending on the trim. 2022 Corolla is good for 29-31 / 37-40 mpg.
Even though Honda remains the best car in the compact class, the Civic can’t beat the Sentra 2022 value argument. If you don’t mind missing a better Civic CVT, the Sentra offers a lot of value -,, especially as an SV model.
The SV 2022 Sentra with Floormats has the same price as the Civic LX 2022, but Nissan offers a larger screen mounted higher on the dashboard, Apple Car Play, Android Auto, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and handsfree access without keys. This is a feature that you will use or touch every day.
Higher than the price ladder, the picture is more dangerous. Once you reach the Civic EX, Honda complements its compact sedan with a more powerful 1.5-liter engine and an eight-way driver’s seat – the Sentra only offers six ways of adjustment.
Both the Civic and Corolla offer electric parking brakes, too, compared to Sentra units which are operated by foot.
Negligence of these convenience features, together with the responsive responsiveness of cruise control in traffic, is no big deal. In essence, the Sentra 2022 is a far better car – faster, still roomy, and offering more style than ever before.
Depending on the trim, we can see why someone goes to the Center. That’s good for now, but what happens when the already wide, efficient, attractive, fun to drive, and refined Civic will be redesigned next year?
Meanwhile, we can appreciate the meaningful dynamic increase of Nissan even though there are some strange transmission tendencies. Commuter centers have better than they have for years.

In the compact sedan spectrum, the Sentra is one of the more affordable competitors. The Hyundai Elantra starts a few hundred more than the Sentra, the Kia Forte a few hundred cheaper.
