The Sentra’s trunk space of 14.3 cubic feet is better than the average for small sedans. The 60/40 split rear seats fold down to help accommodate longer cargo items.
However, the only release is from the back seat; no release is in the trunk. Additionally, the seats don’t fold flat, making loading more extended objects, like a flat-screen TV, more of a hassle.
There is ample interior storage for small items, glasses, and bottles, although other cars, including the Honda Civic and Volkswagen Jetta, do this better. There’s also a fair amount of child seat space, but the cushion tightens access to the car seat anchors.

Inside the 2025 Nissan Sentra’s engine, we expect comparable acceleration resulting in an 8.8 second 0-60 mph time. The Sentra’s continuously variable automatic transmission feels smooth and unobtrusive.
The brake pedal is smooth and easy to control in regular use. However, emergency braking performance is below standard. Our test Sentra needed 131 feet to stop from 60 mph.
For context, the average segment is about 123 feet long. Steering and handling are mediocre but sufficient for the average owner for daily use.

Performance
A 149-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine powers every Sentra mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive. Although the gearless automatic transmission simulates traditional gear changes, this still needs to change the fact that the Sentra is noisy and slow, especially when trying to pass at highway speeds.
The Nissan has an independent rear suspension and wheel sizes that range from 16 to 18 inches. Our version used the most extensive set, contributing to firm ride quality and excessive road noise. Despite this, the Sentra remains comfortable and suitable for daily commuting and weekend trips.
We were very impressed with the braking system. It provides a reassuring pedal feel and solid stopping power from 70 mph, stopping in a class-competitive 170 feet.

The Sentra achieves an EPA-estimated 33 mpg combined (29 city/39 highway), which is average for vehicles with the base engine in this class. We observed 28.7 mpg across three tank fills in our test vehicle, with the best fill of 32 mpg. This figure was slightly below our expectations based on EPA figures.

2025 Nissan Sentra SR
2025 Nissan Sentracapable of 0-60 mph in 8.4 seconds, matching the 2021 Elantra but slower than the Civic we’ve tested with the better of the two mainstream engine options, a turbocharged 1.5-litre unit (7.4 to 8.0 seconds). The Nissan managed to outrun the Civic Sport we tested with the car’s base 2.0-litre engine, reaching 60 mph in 9.2 seconds. As for the Corolla, we tested the economy car’s XSE version, which hit 60 in 8.2 seconds.
In the real world, the updated 2024 Sentra’s CVT still stands out too much, even in Eco mode. It’s as if the car is overcompensating just because of its decent acceleration. We suspect owners will learn to increase the speed or get used to it.
At least Nissan smoothed out the CVT’s behaviour in slow deceleration, and the transmission works well with the engine’s innocuous stop-start system, which doesn’t want to activate, which is good. Once the engine restarts, the system is less intrusive, like others.
Braking was similarly fine, but no records were set. The Nissan handled our 60-0 mph braking test in 123 feet, on par with the Civic we recently tested (122 to 124 feet), a few feet behind the 2020 Corolla XSE sedan (119 feet), and not nearly as good as the Elantra Limited 2021 at 116 feet.
