2022 Nissan Altima is a fully competent mid-size sedan that fills the gap between the less desirable alternatives in this segment. The Nissan is not holistically as good as the Honda Accord nor is it as ho-hum as the VW Passat. In contrast, the Altima is renowned for its eye-catching style, comfortable cabin, and surprising athleticism.
The available all-wheel-drive system is a popular choice, although the additional capabilities are far from necessary. All-wheel-drive, however, is only compatible with the Altima’s mediocre standard four-cylinder powertrain — so buyers who are also tempted by the more powerful VC-Turbo engine option are out of luck.
While it doesn’t offer a hybrid or plug-in-hybrid model like other family sedans, each Altima is extremely fuel-efficient. Combine that with other fun characteristics and you get a great car that most people will appreciate. For 2022, Altima received some minor changes. There’s a new Midnight Edition package, which adds dark exterior accents but is only offered on the SR trim level. Plus, those who opt for the SV Premium plan will now also get heated exterior mirrors with LED turn signals.
2022 Nissan Altima Review
Await that takes 2020 Nissan Altima is a stylish midsize sedan with the comfort and features the family wants and exclusive content that they cannot get anywhere else. Along with spacious cabins and contemporary technology, the Altima is the only sedan in its class with optional all-wheel drive. Nissan also provides an advanced engine called the VC-Turbo that seeks to maximize fuel efficiency and performance.
Apart from the options that changed this game, Altima faced stiff competition from several highly respected competitors.
While alternatives to Honda and Mazda are better looking and handle better, Altima still offers surprising athleticism along with Nissan’s loyal followers.
After being completely redesigned for 2019, Altima only received a few minor updates for 2020.
Nissan now offers more driver assistance technology on entry-level S and SR models, which previously only had advanced collision warnings and automatic emergency braking emergencies.
Version 2020 can be equipped with blind-spot monitoring, rear traffic warning, lane departure warning, and high beam assistance.
Other enhancements include the memory function for the side mirror on the top-of-the-line Platinum model and the black-shiny interior accents on the SV model and above.
The Nissan Altima is a five-seater midsize family sedan that represents an increase in size from the smaller Sentra and just below the sportier Maxima in Nissan’s lineup.
The Altima was last redesigned in 2019, which means the 2022 model year likely marks the midpoint of this generation.
Considering the recent launch of the Nissan Ariya all-electric SUV – which will probably define the styling of future vehicles – we wouldn’t be surprised if the Altima gets a stylistic refresh along with new and updated features.

The only downside to this sedan is the narrow second row. Although there is still enough room for people of all shapes and sizes to sit comfortably, taller people will have problems longer than normal travel.
All the oddities and features of this Nissan Altima will most likely be passed on for the 2021 model year.
2022 Nissan Altima Specs
There are some minor changes in the Altima 2021 schedule. The 2.0-liter variable compression turbo engine is no longer available on the top-of-the-range Platinum model.
In contrast, the VC-Turbo is just one option in the sporty SR, which also bypasses the previous mid-tier SV in a move that reorganizes Altima’s equipment hierarchy.
This lowers the SV’s starting price by $ 2,740, while also removing some of the more interesting standard features.

2022 Nissan Altima Platinum, SR and SL Preview
The Nissan Altima is currently debuting in 2019 with a sleeker style, new engine and all-wheel drive available.
Apart from the standard safety features improvements in 2020, the Altima remains the same, and we expect the midsize sedan to enter 2022 without significant changes.
Altima has been a mainstay of the Nissan brand since 1993 and is now entering its sixth generation.
The Altima 2022 is longer and lower than most family sedans, with a style borrowed from Nissan’s larger and more expensive Maxima. The exterior features highly sculpted sides and a sloping roofline like a coupe.
All trim except the base S carries LED headlights and 17-inch alloy wheels. For a sportier look, the SR model offers a more aggressive body trim and 19-inch alloy wheels.
The spacious cockpit features a floating center touch screen, start button and Nissan Gravity’s very comfortable seats.
Remote starting and power driver seats are also standard. SL and Platinum trim add leather seating, navigation, and a Bose sound system.
The 188 horsepower four-cylinder continues as a single engine for most of the trim, delivering an excellent 32 miles per gallon in a combination of city and highway driving, according to the EPA.
The RS gets a turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 248 hp, but is capable of a combined 29 mpg. All wheel drive remains available with both engines, which is rare in this class.
Each Altima offers a complete range of driver-assisted technologies that include automatic emergency braking, lane assistance assistance, automatic high beam and driver awareness monitoring.
Moving beyond the basic trim provides blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and rear automatic braking. Exclusive surround view camera system for Platinum.
The Altima is one of the few vehicles in its class available with a semi-autonomous drive system, which Nissan calls ProPilot Assist.
For 2021, the Altima received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA and was designated a Top Safety Pick by IIHS.
2022 Nissan Altima Coupe
We turn to the 2022 Nissan Coupe, so far there has been no official information about Nissan’s specifications and prices. However, as far as we know, the presence of the 2022 Nissan Coupe will provide an option that consumers can compensate for.
Most likely it will come with a shorter wheelbase, a lower ride height, a sleek aerodynamic profile and an overall sporty attitude. That attitude can still be found today in the Z® Coupe and Altima sedans.
With the main feature of the 2 door design. Two compact doors feature an ergonomic and sporty interior with perfectly placed controls and body-hugging bucket seats, much like today’s performance coupe, the 370Z.
The lower, lighter and slimmer Z puts in a lot of power – worth 332 horses – and a lot of adrenaline in everyone who rides it.
Featuring performance inspired by the technique and performance built into every legendary Nissan Z, the Altima Coupe is built to ensure that your driving never becomes a routine.
Continuing that tradition today is the Altima sedan, with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, and a 300 hp fighter-inspired Maxima.

2022 Nissan Altima AWD
Challengers for the Nissan Altima 2022 continue to decline every year. For 2022, Fusion is officially out. The dwindling options didn’t make Nissan any more difficult.
Hyundai has refilled with the star Sonata, and Kia with the attractive K5. And that’s before we even mention the updated Honda Accord and the refreshed Toyota Camry.
It’s tough to slide out there, but the Altima’s tent features like optional all-wheel drive and the technologically impressive VC-Turbo engine help set it apart from the rest.
Nissan’s mid-size sedan also spoils the eye with its sharp styling and upscale interior.
This generation Altima is really good to drive too, but even the sportier SR VC-Turbo trim lacks driver engagement and handling compared to the Accord or Mazda6.
Being able to determine all-wheel drive is a big bonus, but suppressed by the similar capabilities of the Subaru Legacy and Camry AWD, our two models will take over the Altima.
Altima is undoubtedly worth a look, but it is still overshadowed by the old winners from Japan and the latest Korea.
Nissan is reducing the number of Altima variants for 2022, eliminating several trim and powertrain combinations: Platinum with VC-Turbo, Platinum 2.5-liter with front-wheel drive, and base model S with all-wheel drive.
That makes the sportier SR model the only one available with Nissan’s 2.0-liter turbo engine, forcing the top Platinum trim to use the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter base engine.
Removing the all-wheel drive S model also makes the entry point for the more expensive AWD ($ 1,350), as you’ll have to move up to the SV trim for it by 2022. Additionally, the SV trim adds an available Premium package.
2022 Nissan Altima Interior
Inside the interior, the Altima cabin provides a direct dashboard with an easy to use switchgear. Interior materials vary between trim levels, But they are all significant improvements compared to the previous generation Altima.
Our mid-level SV test vehicle has an interesting appointment and hard plastic that doesn’t attract much attention.
Desired options include the ambient interior lighting, memory settings for the driver’s seat, heated front seats, and strong sunroof.
The average steering wheel and fake carbon fiber are few here, mainly because there are no paddle shifters or drive modes to choose from in the SV.
Still, soft armrests make roaming and sitting in traffic more tolerable. The front seat can accommodate various body types, but we feel that lumbar support is too aggressive.
Each Altima has a standard 8.0-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities. The infotainment interface has a main menu that can be adjusted but several personalization options.

While the sound system has buttons that are useful for volume and adjustment, the touch screen that we tested responds slowly to the input.
Along with optional built-in navigation, the Altima infotainment system can be upgraded with a 4G LTE mobile hotspot installed by the dealer.
We put six tote bags in Altima’s luggage and 17 total bags with folded back seats. These figures match those of the Toyota Camry that we tested, but they do not meet 19 Honda Accord bags.
Unfortunately, Nissan’s rear seats were not completely folded and had to be removed using a handle on the trunk, which was troublesome.
Altima has decent storage in the front seat, with deep, narrow door pockets and a useful tray at the front of the center console.
The interior is very attractive, especially in the premium Platinum trim, with attractive and quality materials.
The leather-covered steering wheel with a flat base looks good and feels more comfortable in your hand, while the leather seats have contrast stitching that is mimicked on the dashboard and door panels.
The instrument binnacle is lined with a soft touch material, as is the top of the door, while the rest of the interior surface is made of hard plastic which looks soft.
The only detail that stands out in a bad way is some plastic wood which looks unconvincing on the top trim. And as handsome as the interior is, we found the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Mazda6 to be stronger overall.
In terms of in-car technology, the USB-A, USB-C, aux, and 12V ports are easily accessible on the cubby phone’s center console, under the infotainment screen mounted above the dashboard.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard. It has a fairly simple interface for infotainment and navigation, and a configurable 8-inch touchscreen layout.
You may want to use a map-based program for your phone as we found in-car navigation failing to find points of interest and the voice recognition function to be poor – although this latter situation is rare among car models.
The available nine-speaker Bose audio system is fine for a premium option. We like that there are still physical menu buttons for easy navigation of touchscreen audio controls.
Likewise, the HVAC controls were clustered together in a legacy of physical knobs and buttons, not integrated or partially integrated into the infotainment screen.
There’s also a traditional shifters rather than a convoluted push-button setup.
2022 Nissan Altima Exterior and Length
Exterior issues of the 2022 Nissan Altima are currently in the sixth generation introduced as part of the 2019 model year.
That’s only when it gets a design refresher. So it is very unlikely that the manufacturer will redesign again.
The hybrid variant, if there is one at all, can get a special badging creed but apart from that expect nothing new.
Although, things improved for this midsize sedan after being redesigned.
The lower and wider and it shows the way this sedan drove too. In front, there is a signature V-Motion finished in chrome.

Only, unlike Maxima, this V down deeper. Therefore this sedan looks much more impressive now.
Then there is an active faint-out shutter flanked by sharp-style LED lights. They underline several character lines that run along the side of this car.
18-inch alloy wheels fitted with gloves like this sedan. The tail is done tastefully with a charcoal rear diffuser, the exhaust tip is chrome, and the LED Boomerang tail lights.
Among its competitors, Camry is the toughest. Altima and Camry are equally compatible in terms of external dimensions.
Both have the same wheelbase and the same length. On the other hand, the Honda Accord is the lightest of the others but conversely wider and taller than the other two medium-sized sedans.
Altima feels small to ride but is roomy inside. It is 193 inches long, 73 inches wide and 57 inches high, with a wheelbase of 111 inches. Each of these dimensions is within one inch of the Accord and Camry.
The curb weight of the Altima ranges from 3,207 to 3,462 pounds, slightly more than the Accord’s weight range, and slightly less than that of the Camry.
There is enough head and leg room for 6 feet of front and rear seating, which is impressive, but is actually now typical for mid-sized sedans.
Parents should note that Altima’s fixed headrests can be frustrating when trying to secure a child seat. As always, we recommend bringing a child seat during the test drive.
With a capacity of 15.4 cubic feet, the Altima has slightly more luggage space than the Camry, but the Accord and Sonata both beat it in the 16 cubic foot range.
2022 Nissan Altima Hybrid
The 2020 Nissan Altima is currently entering the sixth generation introduced as part of the 2019 model year. Only then has the design been updated.
So it is highly unlikely that the manufacturer will redesign it again. The hybrid variant, if any, could get a custom credo badge but other than that don’t expect anything new.
Despite this, things have really improved for this mid-size sedan after being redesigned. It gets lower and wider and it really shows from the way this sedan is going too.
Upfront, there’s the V-Motion signature that’s plated in chrome. It’s just that, unlike the Maxima, this V is deeper. That’s why this sedan looks a lot more impressive now.
Then there are the dark active grille shutters flanked by sharp-style LED headlamps. They underline some of the character lines that run along the side of this car.
The 18-inch alloy wheels fit this sedan like a glove. The tail is beautifully crafted with a charcoal rear diffuser, chrome-plated exhaust tip and Boomerang LED taillights.

Available in five trim levels: S, SV, SR, SR-VC-Turbo and SL, the Altima can comfortably accommodate four or more passengers. It is equipped with a standard 2.5 liter inline cylinder engine producing 188 horsepower.

2022 Altima Engine
Need to know 2022 Nissan Altima has a standard 188-liter 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
The optional 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder produces 248 horsepower and also uses a CVT.
While Nissan praised the innovative variable-compression technology, only 2.5-liter engines can be obtained with all-wheel drive. We have driven both versions and can confirm that Nissan has not given up on the sedan.
The standard four-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive have predictable, though unusual acceleration.
The engine was noisier, the harder we pressed the accelerator, but the four-cylinder Camry we tested was sometimes as loud.
The VC-Turbo engine makes Altima significantly faster. It moves from zero to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and goes from 50 to 70 mph (to simulate passing on the highway) in 4.1 seconds.
The last time was faster than the Honda Accord and the most powerful Toyota Camry.

Even though Nissan’s turbocharged engine is unconventional and its all-wheel drive is not common, it’s not at all fun to drive like a Mazda 6 or almost all Accord.
The Altima SR received a sport-adjusted suspension and 19-inch wheels which made it more entertaining on the winding road section. However, this increase also reduces the ride quality found on the usual Altima models.
Surprisingly, the top-of-the-line Platinum model that we drive has a sharper grip than the new BMW 330i xDrive 2019 that we tested. Nissan also has a comfortable ride that prevents vibrations on bumpy sidewalks.
The steering system is right by the family sedan standard and does not add to the effort to emulate the taste of the wheel. The Altima brake pedal has linear feedback and a fast response to our inputs.
We recorded an emergency braking distance (70 mph to zero) of 170 feet, which competed with the same equipped Accord and Camry.
2022 Nissan Altima Horsepower
The Nissan Altima 2022 features a ride that is focused on comfort and fantastic fuel economy.
The base engine has decent power, but the optional SR trim engine is an option for those looking for a fancier ride. However, rivals like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry are more fun to drive.

At MPG 2022 Altima does not offer a plug-in-hybrid hybrid model that is fuel-efficient or environmentally friendly like many of its competitors, But its two petrol engines have high EPA fuel economy ratings and better real-world results.
The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine has an estimated up to 28 mpg city and 39 mpg highway.

However, the more expensive models are rated as low as 25 mpg city and 34 mpg highway.
EPA estimates that the all-wheel-drive model can produce up to 26 mpg cities and 36 mpg highways.
The VC-Turbo engine has a rating of 25 mpg city and 35 mpg highway.
On our 200-mile highway fuel-efficient route, the 2022 Altima all-wheel-drive reaches 41 mpg, while the VC-Turbo version records an impressive 37 mpg.
The Accord and Camry are the most fuel-efficient, each producing 38 mpg and 45 mpg.
