2023 Nissan Maxima: The New Nissan Maxima 4-Door Sports Car And High-Tech Powerhouse Review

Posted on

2023 Nissan Maxima although it hasn’t been revamped since the 2016 model year, the exterior of the Nissan Maxima 2023 still attracts attention thanks to its floating roofline and swoopy profile. Too bad the manners aren’t that interesting.

The Maxima feels more agile than the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger but not as smooth as the Volkswagen Arteon. All Maximas come with a V-6 engine that churns out 300 horsepower but is mated to an excellent continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).

The Nissan cabin is spacious and very luxurious for the price so if you are looking for a lower-cost alternative to something from say the luxury brand Nissan Infiniti it is well worth a look. Otherwise, we would be interested in the Arteon or other smaller sports sedans from Audi or BMW which have the same price tag.

What’s new is that the end is near for Maxima. Nissan has announced that 2023 will be Maxima’s final model year.

The Maxima has been the flagship sedan of the Nissan brand since the 1980s but the recent generation has failed to live up to the sporty image built by previous models of the car that impressed Car and Driver editors in the 1990s.

We suspect Nissan will not retire the Maxima nameplate altogether as the company shifts its focus to electric vehicles and SUVs.

The Maxima could be reborn as a pseudo-crossover in the same vein as the Toyota Crown or its name could be applied to a future electric sedan reincarnated from the Maxima as an EV with a sports sedan attitude.

2023 Nissan Maxima Review

The Nissan Maxima is an automotive outlier that has carved its own niche. While it’s similar in length and width to the mid-size Nissan Altima it also offers a high-end V6 interior powertrain and a hefty price tag.

2023 Nissan Maxima

Many of its big sedan rivals are now gone and the Maxima will soon be joining them: 2023 will be the last year of sedan production.

The Maxima’s appeal stems largely from its pleasant position to drive. The six-cylinder engine is quite responsive and fits perfectly with the continuously variable automatic transmission.

The Nissan feels lighter on its feet than other midsize sedans making it a reliable partner on winding mountain roads. There’s even an SR model with paddle shifters and a unique sport-tuned suspension although some will find it too stiff for everyday use.

There are a few other downsides on top of the price. The Maxima has an outdated infotainment system and a roofline that cuts into the rear headroom which reduces its practicality as a people carrier.

The Maxima is not a “four-door sports car” as Nissan calls it. It’s not even a sports sedan. But it is a sporty midsize sedan with above-average handling and strong acceleration from a V6 engine. Surprisingly the Maxima feels heavy at low speeds but is lighter and more agile as the speed increases.

This sensation mostly boils down to the feel of the steering wheel. In many cars, it is quite the opposite in that it is lighter at parking lot speeds and heavier at higher speeds.

At corners and corners, Maxima’s dynamic limit is quite low but the car communicates well enough that the driver can be confident not to overtake it. Overall this Nissan is a friendly car and easy to drive.

  • Well-made and attractive cabin
  • Sharp handling for a midsize sedan
  • A quiet interior provides a premium experience
  • No major changes are expected for 2023
  • Part of the eighth generation Maxima introduced for 2016

2023 Nissan Maxima Refresh

The Maxima’s silent cabin is a concerted effort involving ample sound-absorbing acoustic glass and active noise-canceling to give the sedan a premium feel on the road.

The vehicle is sturdy and controlled and the suspension absorbs bumps and road imperfections well. (A firmer sports suspension is available for drivers who want to trade ride comfort for sharper handling.) Overall the Maxima rides better than most midsize family sedans and is more like an entry-level luxury car.

The Maxima seat also straddles the line between sporty support and long-distance comfort. They will keep you in place through fast corners but stay comfortable for a long time.

The interior of the Maxima looks great the controls are easy to use and the infotainment system structure is logical.

But there is a price to pay for Maxima’s sleek exterior design. Passenger space is limited and the cabin feels small. Front passengers get decent headroom but distractions in the footwell and high armrests make things feel cramped.

Rear passengers have less legroom and headroom. And getting in and out of Maxima, especially for those in the back seat is a lot more work than it should be.

Visibility also leaves something to be desired and the front angle of the car is difficult to judge. Rearview mirrors and useful safety aids aid awareness.

New Updates Nissan Maxima 2023

The Nissan Maxima is one of the older options in the large sedan class, the last one being completely redesigned in 2016. Rumors point to the Maxima being replaced by the all-electric IMS Concept, but Nissan has yet to confirm any news.

If Nissan doesn’t replace the Maxima with the IMS Concept, we expect the 2023 model year to be a carryover model.

The Nissan Maxima 2023 should retain the same exterior design as the current model on sale. The sedan has one of the sportier designs in its class with an impressive V-shaped grille, aggressive headlights, quad exhaust outlets, and serrated taillights. The black C-pillars and flowing lines give the Maxima a floating roof design.

On the inside, the current Maxima has an upscale design that is starting to look old-fashioned. The dashboard has a V shape that meets the elongated center console.

The center touchscreen is flanked by many physical controls, while the HVAC system is controlled by large buttons and dials. A flat-bottomed steering wheel and large shift paddles provide a sporty touch on the inside. The Maxima 2023 is expected to have the same overall interior design.

Standard technology features on the current Maxima include an 8-inch touchscreen, smartphone compatibility, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hot spots, eight audio speakers, and navigation.

Available features include an 11-speaker Bose audio system, Nissan’s Virtual Key system, and two additional USB ports. These features will remain the same for 2023.

The Maxima is currently one of the few sedans on sale to be equipped with the standard 3.5-liter V6 engine. Nissan is expected to keep the same engine for the 2023 model year. Power is rated at 300 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive is standard.

Every Maxima comes with a long list of standard safety features. these features should remain the same for the upcoming 2023 model year.

Forward collision warning, forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, driver attention monitoring, rear traffic warning, blind spot monitoring, and traffic sign recognition are standard.

Available features include a surround-view parking camera, lane guard assistance, and front parking sensors.

2023 Nissan Maxima Interior

The Maxima offers room for five people in a well-executed cabin full of soft-touch materials, simple controls, and lots of advanced features. Front seat legroom is among the best in class while headroom is average.

Rear seat space isn’t as extensive as larger competitors like the 300. Power-adjustable front passenger and driver seats steering wheel and leather-wrapped shift knobs dual-zone automatic climate control auto-dimming mirrors and a start button are standard across the board.

One of the smallest pieces of luggage in the category means the Maxima starts off with a weakness in cargo transport but the larger cubbies are a comfortable place to store everyday items and the back seat back folds down to accommodate larger items.

The 80-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard across the Maxima range and we found it easy to use.

The infotainment system can be used as a touchscreen but there are also redundant buttons in the middle stack for quick access to common adjustments like audio volume and climate control.

The system also provides remote access vehicle monitoring and emergency services. Parents of teenage drivers may appreciate speed limit and curfew warnings and the system automatically calling emergency services when the airbag deploys after an accident.

Being able to track Maxima’s location in case of theft is very useful as is a remote start and door lock access.

2023 Nissan Maxima Tech

Nissan’s tech features are easy to use but other than up to two USB-C ports (in addition to the usual two) and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto infotainment feels out of date and out of date.

The stereo and touchscreen should suffice especially if you like bass but other midsize sedans are cheaper and offer a more full-featured system and better audio.

Most of the basic infotainment features can be controlled via voice commands but we found the system fussy about the word and phrase choices.

Driver assistance is also limited. Adaptive cruise control works well and can bring the car to a complete stop but Nissan’s innovative ProPilot package is not offered.

2023 Nissan Maxima Engine

The Maxima is one of the faster full-size sedans and its V-6 engine sounds good when pushed hard. The 35-liter V-6 produces 300 horsepower and drives the Maxima with purpose. However, a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) reduces the mission of the Maxima sports sedan.

2023 Nissan Maxima

In our tests, the Maxima Platinum sprinted from zero to 60 mph in 57 seconds beating faster rivals such as the Volkswagen Arteon and the V-6-powered Charger model. The Maxima handles well for its size. The suspension is well damped and sturdy to the point that it may be too stiff for its class.

The Maxima exhibits a sleek little body in aggressive cornering maneuvers and in our tests the Maxima SR easily outperformed its competitors.

2023 Nissan Maxima MPG

With good fuel economy ratings of 20 mpg city and 30 mpg highway and above average results in our real-world tests the Maxima powertrain proved itself to be a master at blending performance and efficiency. Its long highway cruising range also makes it the perfect long-distance companion.

During our 200-mile highway fuel-economy test route we surpassed the EPA Maxima rating by an impressive 32 mpg. For more information on Maxima’s fuel economy visit the EPA website.

2023 Nissan Maxima Release Date

We expect the Nissan Maxima 2023 to arrive before the fall. If that vehicle is to be replaced by the all-electric IMS Concept, we’ll have to get confirmation this summer.

2023 Nissan Maxima Price

We think the Platinum trim is worth the price hike as it adds a power-adjustable steering column rain-sensitive windshield wipers power-operated rear blinds leather seats heated rear seat diamond-coated inserts and wood interior trim.

If you’re feeling extravagant the optional Reserve package] maximizes the Maxima with a charcoal-colored headliner, a two-tone leather steering wheel, and exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels.

Prices for the Maxima currently range from $38,865 to $44,175 (by destination). The 2023 model should have a price tag that stays close to this range.

  • SV $40000 (est)
  • SR $45000 (est)
  • Platinum $45000 (est)

2023 Nissan Maxima is a sedan that occupies a surprising niche in the automotive market. It’s roughly the same length and width as the mid-size Nissan Altima, but its V6 powertrain, upscale interior, and high price tag are more akin to what you’d find in a large sedan like the Toyota Avalon.

As such, the Maxima is much more expensive and thirstier than competitors with the same amount of interior space, without offering the same roomy cabin as competitors for the same price.

It’s unlikely to appeal to practical shoppers, but shoppers looking for a fun-to-drive four-door might find it at the Maxima. The six-cylinder engine is quite responsive and fits perfectly with the continuously variable automatic transmission.

The Nissan’s foot feels lighter than other midsize sedans, making it a reliable partner on winding mountain roads. Provided you don’t use the SR model (including the unique sport-tuned suspension), the Maxima is also quite comfortable on the road.

But we can’t ignore the aforementioned flaws, or Maxima’s outdated infotainment system and roofline cutting back headroom.

Given the sedan’s general declining popularity and the existence of the much more popular Nissan Altima, we don’t expect any major updates to the Maxima until it finally shakes this mortal coil.

That means there may be no point in waiting for the 2023 model. If you’re in the market for a Maxima right now, be sure to check out the Nissan Maxima 2022 that’s currently on sale.

2023 Nissan Maxima Sport

The current generation Nissan Maxima looks a bit sportier and more distinctive than the previous generation, some of which have a very conservative styling. If the Maxima 2023 is indeed influenced by the Nissan V-Motion concept, this means a more futuristic and sporty interpretation of the current design.

The Maxima could also be a four-door coupe or a liftback (hatchback) in some corners, similar to the Kia Stinger or the Peugeot 508 Fastback. However, this will most likely happen after 2025.

One thing is for sure, the Maxima has become a pretty fast car, even with a CVT. The 0 to 60 mph time of the current generation is 5.7 seconds and on a good day, the Maxima proves it can run with the Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R.

For the engine, the Maxima is expected to still use the 3.5-liter VQ35DE V-6 engine, which has the potential to produce a little power.

A prize, the engine produces 300 horsepower and 261 pound-feet (354 Nm). Maxima’s biggest weak point is the gearbox, which is a CVT. While it’s great for fuel economy, it doesn’t quite match the pretensions of a sportier car.

This is the bad news. While Nissan currently has options when it comes to automatic transmission options, the 2023 model could still feature a CVT gearbox. Nissan did come with a heavy-duty toroidal CVT that has a greater torque capacity, but it might only be featured on pick-up trucks and SUVs.

We still think the Maxima should have a manual option or at least a proper automatic like the Mercedes-derived nine-speed automatic.

2023 Nissan Maxima You may know the Nissan Maxima as a bland sedan brand, destined to become a fleet car for rental companies or taxi services. Over the years, the car did have a few decent versions, among them the SR, which was supposed to be a sportier variant of the mediocre front-wheel-drive mid-size sedan.

To make matters worse, the Maxima dropped the manual option in 2008 and, since then, the powerful 3.5-liter V-6 has had to work with the crippled CVT unit. However, the Nissan Maxima 2023 has the potential to be an attractive proposition. This is the reason.

It was initially believed that the current eighth-generation Maxima would be discontinued sometime in the next two years. This belief was further strengthened by the decline in sales of large sedans, in response to increasing demand for crossovers and SUVs. However, the data shows that not all car owners join the SUV/crossover.

For example, 42 percent of Ford Focus and Chevrolet Cruze owners do not upgrade to a high-riding vehicle. Instead, they choose another similar vehicle from another automaker, which is often a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic.

Despite the crossover/SIV craze, sedans, whether they’re compact, mid-size, or full-size, still make up a sizeable percentage of the automotive market. In addition, the sedan has become more versatile than ever. So, how is the Nissan Maxima related?

Maxima hasn’t been offered in Europe, for almost two decades, but this may change. Given that compact sedans have become bigger than ever, certain models have become obsolete.

For example, Toyota discontinued the Avensis, positioned above the Corolla, in favor of a smaller Corolla (not much smaller nowadays). This in turn leaves room for larger models, which is why the Toyota Camry returned to the European market in 2018, after a long absence.

This means that the Nissan Maxima 2023 could once again become a global model. Plus, the Maxima has already gone through a mid-cycle refresh, in 2019, so you can bet it’ll be around for a longer time. Hopefully not as long as the GT-R and 370Z.

According to the Motor1 article, 2022 could also spawn a fully electric version of the Nissan Maxima. However, that probably won’t happen until 2025, when the model is rumored to be undergoing a complete redesign.

The current generation Nissan Maxima looks a bit sportier and more distinctive than the previous generation, some of which have a very conservative styling. Now, more than ever, it makes sense for the Nissan Maxima to, once again, become a global model. With Nissan’s current pricing strategy, the Japanese sporty sedan has the potential to generate great value for money, not only in the North American market but globally as well.

However, the CVT had to go if the Maxima wanted to reenact its sporty character. While the Nissan Maxima 2023 is partly a mystery, we’ll likely get more of the same, until a complete redesign comes out, in 2025.

2023 Nissan Maxima Review Updated!

Nissan wants to renew about 70 percent of its model portfolio by mid-2021. As a long-term plan, the automaker will move to a shorter three-year life cycle for its core models from its current five-year strategy. A new vehicle news report attempts to model the brand’s plans by models.

2023 Nissan Maxima

“We are in the process of significantly updating our US product line,” Nissan VP Ashwani Gupta recently told Vehicle News. As part of the plan, the Maxima may become the next-generation electric sedan. Specifically, the car will be inspired by the IM concept. “And it’s likely to arrive in the second half of 2022.

A few months earlier, Nissan had to reveal the successor to the 370Z sports car. According to the car news, it will be inspired by the old Z sports car in terms of design and will be powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine – something we have heard about and hope will come true.

Meanwhile, the GT-R is also currently in development, but may not arrive before 2023 at the earliest. This means that the older Godzilla has at least two more years on the market until his successor enters the market.

Looking at the other end of the spectrum, entry-level Versa may not last beyond the current generation, but a refresh is on the horizon in the second half of 2022. One step up is chin, which will remain largely unchanged until 2023 so in the middle, a cycle refresh should be introduced.

In the SUV segment, the Murano needs to be completely redesigned for the 2022 model year, while the Pathfinder is expected to get a new generation a few months earlier. The same is true of the fleet.

Several months ago Nissan Maxima 2023 released details of its turnaround plan, whereby the brand will introduce 12 new models globally, but at the same time 14 models will be discontinued.

As part of its plan, Nissan will also commit to a shorter three-year life cycle for its core model than the current five-year strategy.

We are in the process of a major upgrade to our US product line, Nissan Motor Co-COO Ashwani Gupta recently told Automotive News. Nissan has revealed details on some of its new models, such as the All-New Rogue 2021 and the Ariya 2022 electric crossover.

But what is Nissan planning for the rest of its lineup? Starting with the Maxima flagship, it is likely to be replaced by a fully electric sedan inspired by the IM elevated sports sedan concept and could arrive as early as the second half of 2022.

In the SUV segment, the Murano will have to be completely redesigned for the 2022 model year, while the Pathfinder should get the new generation a few months before. The same is true for Fleet.

2023 Nissan Maxima Platinum

Drivers who like performance are usually willing to sacrifice to get a sporty impression. The Nissan Maxima has long lived up to this set by offering standard V6 power and sharper handling than the average midsize sedan.

2023 Nissan Maxima

With the 2021 Maxima, you get a 300-horsepower V6 plus many standard features. Even the base Maxima trim comes with leather upholstery, for example.

Unfortunately, the Maxima 2021, which is part of the eighth generation car that made its debut in 2015, doesn’t differentiate itself much. Newer rivals, such as the Honda Accord, Kia K5, and Toyota Camry, offer similar performance potential with fewer compromises.

Usually, the price is cheaper too. We usually recommend going with one of these rivals, but check out our Expert Rating category to learn more about Maxima’s strengths and weaknesses.

The Nissan Maxima 2021 is a midsize sedan offered in SV, SR, and Platinum trim. Powering all Maxima models is a 3.5-liter V6 engine (300 horsepower, 261 lb-ft of torque) mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) driving the front wheels. Standard feature highlights include:

The top-of-the-line Platinum model runs without the sport-tuned suspension and SR paddle shifters but adds:

  • Premium leather upholstery
  • Rear window blinds

Is Maxima Better Than Altima

Performance. Both the Altima and Maxima 2023 are high-performance vehicles with the right accessories, according to Nissan USA.

The 2020 Altima comes with a standard 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine. However, Maxima is an overall better performer

2023 Nissan Maxima Redesign

There was a time when the Nissan Maxima 2023 was called a “four-door sports car” and that’s a pretty accurate description.

Despite being front-wheel drive, the older generation Maximas offers a much more dynamic driving experience than the current eighth generation, launched in 2015. The current Maxima is not similar to the previous model, much to the displeasure of many.

Also, the only slightly smaller Nissan Altima is not only newer but also makes spending on the Maxima more difficult to justify. And like the Ford Shore, in general, the larger sedan continued to decline in popularity. The writing is on the wall.

Car News claims that the flagship car Charming, which received several new updates last year, is expected to be discontinued shortly.

Although this exact date is not known, Nissan intends to launch a brand new electric sedan in style inspired by the concept of the IM Sport sedan in the second half of 2022.

At the time it would not have made sense to introduce the charming ninth generation with propulsion burning. Is it possible that Maxima’s nameplate will be connected to EV? Maybe but not possible.

Automakers tend to introduce new signage when so-called “core elements” of vehicles change, such as the transition from internal combustion to tram.

This is a new start that Nissan Maxima 2023 will surely want to take advantage of. Currently, Nissan says the main difference between Altima and Maxima, which share platforms, is that the former is designed for efficiency and the latter is performance.

But the Maxima has not been a focused sedan for some time. Put it this way: Real-performance cars do not come with CVT, the only gearbox that Maxima currently offers.

In the meantime, Altima is expected to receive a mid-life renewal in 2022 as well, but it seems that Nissan does not intend to cancel it any time soon.

According to reports, plans are already underway for the next redesign by 2025 and they are expected to offer an electric version, most likely a plug-in hybrid arrangement. Maxima, however, has only one or two model years left.

2023 Nissan Maxima Interior

On the inside, the Maxima offers room for five people in a well-executed cabin filled with soft-touch materials, simple controls, and lots of high-end features. The legroom in the front seats is among the best in its class, while the headroom is average.

2023 Nissan Maxima

Rear seat space is not as extensive as in bigger rivals such as the Chevrolet Impala and Toyota Avalon. Power adjustable front passenger and driver seats, leather-covered steering wheel and shift knob, dual-zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming mirrors, and a start button are standard features across the device.

One of the smallest pieces of baggage in this category means the Maxima starts with a loss in the carriage of cargo;

However, its larger cubes are a convenient place to store everyday items, and the rear seatbacks fold down to accommodate larger items.

The 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard across the Nissan Maxima 2023 range and we found it easy to use.

The infotainment system can be used as a touchscreen but there are also multiple buttons in the center stack for quick access to common adjustments such as audio volume and climate control.

This system also provides vehicle monitoring, remote access, and emergency services which greatly assist motorists when making adjustments in the car.

The system also helps parents of teen drivers perhaps appreciate the speed, limit, and curfew alerts, and the system automatically calls emergency services when an airbag is installed after an accident. Being able to track Maxima’s location in the event of theft is easy, as are remote start access and door locks.

2023 Nissan Maxima Engine

The engine on offer for the 2023 Maxima is one of the faster full-size sedans, and the V-6 engine sounds great when pushed hard. The 3.5 liters V-6 produces 300 horsepower and drives the Maxima to its intended purpose.

The continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), however, detracts from the Maxima sports sedan’s mission. In our tests, the Maxima Platinum ran from zero to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds, outperforming rivals such as Kia Cadenza and Buick LaCrosse. Maxima takes care of its size well.

The suspension is well damped and sturdy to the point that it may be too stiff for its class. The Maxima exhibits a sleek little body in aggressive cornering maneuvers, and in our tests, the Maxima SR easily outperformed its competitors.

2023 Nissan Maxima MPG

Speaking of the MPG 2023 Nissan Maxima vehicle equipped with several good fuel economy ratings, as well as above-average results in our real-world tests, the Maxima powertrain proved itself adept at combining performance and efficiency.

The long mileage also makes it the perfect long-distance companion. During the 200-mile highway fuel-economy test route, from one we exceeded the EPA Maxima rating to an impressive 32 mpg.

Nissan Maxima 2022 Over the past 40 years, the Nissan 2022 Maxima has gone through several iterations – sometimes more luxurious and sometimes sportier, this sedan has consistently retained five seats and uses a relatively powerful six-cylinder engine. comfortable interiors and easy-to-use technological equipment, but without a real competitive advantage in this segment. The

For Maxima 2022, the Maxima is unlikely to see any significant changes as the current generation is nearing the end of its lifespan. After that, we’re not sure what Nissan has planned for the Maxima. The iconic sedan will be fully electric in 2023 and appears to be similar to the IM concept launched by Nissan in 2019. We hope the Maxima name continues and Nissan can revive its durable sedan. Offering sporty handling, usable technology, and a sleek interior, but not too prominent in crowded areas, it’s a year or two away from a radical makeover that could shake things up. for this sedan.

2024 Nissan Maxima

Speaking of the Nissan Maxima 2024, a full-size sedan doesn’t have to be pleasing to the eye and boring to drive, especially when it comes to the Nissan Maxima.

Drivers who enjoy driving pleasure will find it with the Maxima, although expectations should be well below sports car benchmarks. drive wheel.

At Nissan Maxima 2024, we look forward to the conveniences of modern technology, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a host of standard driver assistance services, to come and be counted. The Maxima is a good choice for anti-SUV drivers who need passenger space and value the comfort of a large car.

2023 Nissan Maxima Release Date

Before the replacement for the Maxima arrives, Nissan will be releasing a successor to the 370Z, dubbed the 400Z. Nissan recently released a teaser for the next-gen Z, which borrows a lot from the past.

Nissan is also working on the next-generation GT-R, which may arrive in 2023. The next-generation Pathfinder is expected to debut in the first half of 2021, followed by the new Murano. Also don’t forget the next Frontier pickup truck, which is slated to arrive in the second half of 2021.

As for Nissan’s other sedan lineup, the Versa may disappear after the current generation, as buyers in the US don’t want a small sedan. Altima is expected to get a facelift in 2022 and Sentra will get an update in 2023.

We think the Platinum trim is perfectly worth the price increase, as it adds a power-adjustable steering column, rain-sensing windshield wipers, power-operated rear blinds, and full leather seats with diamond-plated inserts, and wood interior trim.
